Tooth Bleaching - Discoloration

What is Bleaching?

Bleaching is an aesthetic dentistry procedure that lightens the natural color of the teeth by several shades and removes discoloration on the tooth enamel. This procedure helps patients achieve a more aesthetic smile in a safe and effective way.

Bleaching Methods

Teeth whitening is divided into two according to the method of application:

1.Office Bleaching (Clinical Whitening):

-It is an application performed in a clinical environment under the control of a dentist.

-Completed in an average of one hour.

-It gives faster results and is performed safely under expert control.

2.Home Bleaching:

-It is applied at home by placing whitening gel into transparent plaques specially prepared by the dentist.

-Duration of use and dosage are determined under the guidance of the physician.

How is Office Bleaching Process Performed?

-Preparation Phase:

-Before the procedure, scaling and polishing is performed to remove stains.

-Protection:

Gums and other soft tissues are protected by a light-cured barrier.

-Whitening Gel Application:

-Gels are applied to the surface of the teeth and activated with the help of a special light.

-Sessions

-The procedure is usually repeated 2-3 times in 15 minute sessions.

-Supporting Implementation:

-Supplementary home bleaching with customized trays for use at home is recommended to maintain the desired results.

To whom can it be applied?

-Suitable for healthy and adult individuals.

-Not recommended in patients during pregnancy and lactation.

-It is not preferred in these cases:

-People who are allergic to bleaching materials.

-Teeth that are decayed, broken, cracked or hypersensitive.

-Dense gum recession and teeth with exposed root surfaces.

What Should Be Considered After Bleaching?

-Avoid foods that may cause discoloration such as smoking, coffee, tea, red wine for 24-48 hours after the procedure.

-Regular oral care is important to maintain the whiteness of your teeth.

Attention!

Whitening is generally safe, but it can damage tooth enamel if applied with the wrong technique and duration. Therefore, it must be performed under the control of a dentist. Short-term sensitivity may occur after the procedure, but this is temporary and decreases rapidly with proper care.
