Periodontology Treatments
Periodontology is a branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of gum and jawbone diseases. These treatments aim to control gum diseases with surgical and non-surgical methods.
Non-Surgical Periodontal Treatments
-Tooth Surface Cleaning: Removal of plaque and tartar deposits on the surface of the teeth.
-Root Surface Smoothing: Prevention of plaque build-up by removing roughness in the roots of the teeth.
-Subgingival Curettage: Cleaning and promoting healing of the tissues under the gums.
Surgical Periodontal Treatments
-Regenerative Surgeries: Bone graft and membrane applications to replace lost support tissues.
-Gum Recession Treatment: Correction of gingival recession with plastic periodontal surgery.
-Treatment of Gingival Growths: Removal of excess tissue by gingivectomy and gingivoplasty.
-Periimplant Treatments: Treatment of diseases around the implant.
Laser Assisted Treatment
The laser can be used to control inflammation, reduce bleeding during surgery and accelerate wound healing.
Treatment Process and Oral Care
Periodontal treatment starts with improving oral care. The disease-causing biofilm is removed and controlled.
1.Initial Treatments: Biofilm and tartar cleaning is performed under the supervision of a physician.
2.Surgical Applications: Surgical procedures are performed when necessary.
3.Maintenance Process: After treatment, regular check-ups and oral care are continued.
Tartar Cleaning
Scaling is the removal of plaque and tartar accumulated on the teeth. Plaque, which causes tartar formation, can accumulate on the surface of the teeth over time and cause tooth decay and various gum diseases.
Scaling can be used to clean the teeth from these deposits and protect overall dental health.
Oral Hygiene Training
Oral hygiene education includes information and guidance for individuals to develop good oral care habits.
Basic Principles of Oral Hygiene
1.Tooth Brushing: The toothbrush should be held at a 45-degree angle and brushed with a sweeping motion from the gums to the teeth.
2.Flossing: Cleans plaque between teeth. It should be applied gently and in a controlled manner.
3.Mouthwash It reduces oral bacteria, but is not a substitute for brushing and flossing.
4.Balanced Nutrition: Sugary foods should be limited; foods rich in calcium and vitamins should be prioritized.
5.Child Education: Children should be taught the habit of brushing their teeth at an early age. Parents can support this process with fun methods.
For healthy teeth and gums, regular care and medical check-ups should not be neglected.
